Research Interests Current
Prof. Jones' primary area of research is in High Energy Physics. He is a member of the CMS experiment which studies high energy proton-proton collisions at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. Specific physics interests focus on properties of hadrons containing bottom quarks that are produced in top quark decays. Jones is also a member of the Mu2e experiment which is under construction at Fermilab and will search for coherent muon to electron conversion using muons stopped on an aluminum target.
Jones is responsible for running Purdue's Silicon Detector Lab and leads the US effort for pixel sensor module production which will provide components needed for the CMS tracker upgrade. The new tracking detector will allow the CMS experiment to operate efficiently when the High-Luminosity LHC accelerator upgrades are complete. Jones is also responsible for the design and construction of the Mu2e extinction monitor, which will provide a precise measurement of the time structure of the pulsed proton beam used by the experiment.
PreviousJones has previously collaborated on the CDF experiment at Fermilab, and the OPAL experiment, which operated at the Large Electron Positron collider at CERN.
