John J. Quinn

Dr. Quinn is presently Chancellor of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. During the academic year 1964-65 he was a visiting professor of physics at Purdue University
Dr. Quinn's career is truly a distinguished one. He has made many important contributions to condensed matter theory. His activity has ranged from studies of the properties of metals, many-body theory and the properties of low-dimensional systems of interacting electrons.
He has an equally distinguished record of service to the scientific community in a variety of positions. Dr. Quinn became Associate Provost at Brown University in 1984, and in 1986 was named Dean of Faculty. In addition to being Chancellor at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, he also holds the title of Professor of Physics and Professor of Engineering Science and Mechanics.
He is a Fellow of The American Physical Society; he served as a member of the solid state sciences committee of The National Research Council from 1983-86, and was on the executive committee, division of condensed matter physics of The American Physical Society, 1980-83, and chairman in 1982. Special awards include the RCA Outstanding Achievement Award in 1963, and the Naval Research Laboratories Outstanding Achievement Award, 1972 and 1981. He was a NATO Fellow in 1971.
Dr. Quinn is a Member of the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the 1991 WATTec Executive Committee , and the Tennessee College Association's Executive Committee. He serves on the Knoxville Symphony Society Board of Directors, is a member of the Knoxville College Roundtable, the Campaign Advisory Council of the United Way of Creat Knoxville, Inc. and the Leadership Knoxville Class of 1991.
